Bernard Tomic admits he's never 'really tried', amazed by his career results

Controversial Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic has admitted he is just playing for the money and declared he has no love for the sport that has earned him millions. Asked what he had to say to those thinking of buying tickets to his matches, he told them to stay at home and watch him on TV instead, because even he doesn't know which Bernard Tomic will turn up on any given day - the lethargic loser or the prodigy once touted as a future major victor.

Two labels which Bernard Tomic is unlikely to be rid of anytime soon, after his frank interview on Channel 7's Sunday Night program.

"Don't come, watch on TV, you don't have to pay anything, just watch on TV".

"I think all my career's been around 50 per cent and I haven't really tried and really achieved all this, so [it's] just incredible what I have done", he said.

'So when you balance it out my whole career's been at 50 per cent and I haven't really tried, I've achieved all this so it's wonderful what I've done'. "But if you balance it out, I think all my career's been around 50 percent", Tomic, who has slid down the rankings to 73 from a career-high 17, said in the interview.

When asked if he was only in tennis for the money, Tomic said "basically, yeah" and said he could never find love for the game.

"Back then, you're a kid and you dream, and I did love everything about it (tennis) at that stage".

"My position is that I'm trapped". I have to do it.

"I would like to have the heart of Lleyton Hewitt and the groundstrokes of Roger Federer", he said at the time.

'I never chose tennis, tennis chose me. Millions that, you know, people could only imagine. "It's kind of like saying, "I like a girl - I don't love her, but I like her".

"I don't know why, but I felt a little bit bored out there to be completely honest with you", Tomic said after his straight-sets loss to Mischa Zverev.

Michael Phelps vs. Great White Shark
The race was 100 meters, which is Phelps's jam-he's got 3 gold medals at that distance-and went down in open water, not in a pool. The fastest Phelps ever swam to reach a gold medal was roughly 6 miles per hour, but with the monofin, he doubled that speed.

Bernard Tomic was hit with a $20,000 fine after admitting he feigned injury at Wimbledon. "I was just going through the motions", he told Doyle.

Given the opportunity to reflect on those comments, a defiant Tomic stood by them.

'Pat's said a lot of bad things about me in my career.

"This image - people don't know him behind closed doors. I have to do it", he said.

"I didn't come from a rich family".

He drives bright sports cars, taunts the rest of us about how much money he makes and his tank jobs give the impression he doesn't even care - something he admitted to after an early departure from Wimbledon this year. "And now living in all these lavish houses and property around the world, it's my choice. It's something that I've worked for".

Tomic's career has also been affected by off-court controversy.

"I don't tank", Tomic said.

"Not many things can make me happy".

"I haven't really tried, and still achieved all this".
