Hall of Fame Sportscaster Bob Wolff Dies at 96

Sportscaster Bob Wolff has died at 96.

Hall of Fame broadcaster and News 12 veteran Bob Wolff died Saturday at the age of 96.

Boomer and Wolff were certainly aware of one another as well, so we guess you could say that on that day mutual respect was abound.

Wolff also worked for NBC and was in on the radio call when Don Larsen of the New York Yankees pitched a flawless game against the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1956 World Series and the Baltimore Colts defeated the New York Giants in sudden-death overtime to take the National Football League crown in 1958.

Before saying goodbye, Wolff offered an honest critique of Craig's play-by-play work.

In addition to his work with the Knicks and Rangers, Wolff was part of the team for NBC's baseball "Game of the Week" broadcasts.

Wolff called baseball on both television and radio, starting with the Washington Senators and later the Minnesota Twins.

"Bob Wolff's iconic, Hall-of-Fame broadcasting career was matched by his class and character", the Yankees said in a statement.

He is the only sportscaster to call play-by-play of championships in all four major North American professional team sports - baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. "Beyond his lifetime of professional accomplishments, he was a man of great grace and dignity, serving his country with honor, and proudly calling NY home".

Guinness World Records honored him from having the longest sports broadcasting career in 2012. He worked for the local CBS radio affiliate in Durham, N.C., and eventually became the voice of the Washington Senators in 1947.

Wolff has also been honored with an induction into Madison Square Garden's Walk of Fame, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame, Sigma Nu Fraternity Hall of Fame, among others. In 2008, he received the Curt Gowdy media award from the Basketball Hall of Fame.
