Operation 'Khyber 4' starts against terrorists in Rajgal Valley: DG ISPR

Pakistan air force will back the operation in Rajgal, a far-flung valley that sits on Pak-Afghan border, and which the army considers as one of the few strongholds of militants in the region, Ghafoor said.

Pakistan says it had launched a new military operation to combat militants, including Daesh, near its Afghan border, an area surrounded by mountains reaching up to 14,000 feet.

A division-plus size force will take part in the operation, he informed, saying that they hope to unilaterally secure the worldwide border, eliminate hideouts and complete the state's complete physical hold on Khyber Agency in the operation. The military spokesman said the operation will help prevent other militant groups from supporting Daesh and secure areas bordering Afghanistan. He added that it Chief of Army Staff is considering the second appeal.

Current ceasefire violations have resulted in the highest number of civilian casualties than in the past, the DG ISPR said.

About the law and order situation in Karachi he said 98pc reduction in terrorists activities had been achieved as compared to figures for 2013.

Asif Ghafoor said that about 500 families had been living in this area, which are now staying at safer places as Temporarily Displaced Persons.

Since the launch of Operation RuF, the army has launched 46 major operations in the country and over 9,000 intelligence-based operations (IBOs).

There has been a decreasing trend in sectarian attacks, the DG ISPR said.

Erdogan Marks Anniversary Of Coup Attempt By Firing Thousands Of Employees
No hard evidence of his involvement has been presented, however, while Gulen himself has repeatedly denied the accusations. He said: "I am grateful to all members of my nation who defended their country".

Talking about the military courts, he said at present 40 cases are under process. We fire towards bunkers where we think the firing is coming from.

Construction of the fence has also caused tensions, as Afghanistan does not recognise the colonial-era line as an worldwide border. He said around 1760 joint check-posts were erected with the help of police and other law enforcement agencies to keep vigil on the movement of terrorists in various parts of the country.

Replying to a question on Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav's case, DG ISPR said the army chief is reviewing the proceedings of the case and will take a decision on Jadhav's mercy appeal on merit.

Terming the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as "very critical for the progress of Pakistan", the DG ISPR said the armed forces would "give it complete security and will not let it fail at any cost".

He clarified that carrying out joint operations by the security forces was meant to undertake offensive against the terrorists within their respective territorial jurisdictions by sharing intelligence reports with each other and sealing the border so that to check infiltration of terrorists from and to either side.

Speaking on the Raymond Davis issue, he said that Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was not the only institution involved in the matter.

Giving details about the performance of the Military Courts, he said total 274 terrorists were tried and of them 161 were awarded death penalty. The JIT has no direct link with the army, he said. "For this, army shall continue to perform its role in and with support of all other state institutions".
