Sundar Singh Gurjar Strikes Gold at 2017 World Para Athletics Championships

India's Sundar Singh Gurjar claimed gold medal in men's javelin throw event at the World Para Athletic Championships taking place in London on the opening night of the tournament itself.

Sri Lanka Dinesh Priyantha Herath bagged silver with 57.93m while defending champion Guo Chunliang of China finished third with a mark of 56.14m.

The 21-year-old Sundar, who failed to qualify for Rio Paralympics last year due to technical reasons, won three gold medals - one each in javelin throw, shot put and discus throw - in the Fazza IPC Athletics Grand Prix this February.

At the end of the day, World Para Athletics tweeted out the scoreboards of all countries. His will to make a triumphant comeback is admirable and he aims to push even harder for the upcoming Asian Games.

The javelin F46 event also saw another impressive performance by 18-year old Rinku. Grinning, he declared, "I am very happy with this performance and with the fact that I am improving my personal bests".

In the first event which was Men's Discus Throw F42 final, Jaideep represented India and he came very close to medal when he finished fourth with 37.53m.

Meanwhile, 32 year old Ekta Bhyan, competing in her first major worldwide event, produced a fearless performance to secure 6th place in the women's club throw F51 final.
