Bryce Harper helped off of field after suffering left knee injury

The Nationals went on to win Saturday's game over the San Francisco Giants, 3-1, to advance their record to 69-45 on the season. Harper slipped on the bag and his leg stretched out in an awkward position, landing hard and remaining on the ground.

For the second straight day, the Nationals and Giants were forced into a rain delay due to storms in Washington, D.C., and after deciding to postpone Friday's contest, the teams were forced to wait and do everything in their power to get the game in. Harper had hit a ground ball to the right side and first baseman Ryder Jones made a lunging stop before racing to the bag. Harper, the 2015 MVP who is hitting.326 with 29 home runs and 87 RBIs as the most fearsome hitter in the league this season, did not speak to reporters after the game. If the injury is serious, that could also take a mental hit to the Nationals' club, or fuel their fire during Harper's absence. Harper clutched at his left knee and didn't put any weight on it as he was helped off the field.

Pentagon Ready to 'Fight Tonight' as Tensions Between US, North Korea Escalate
Trump's warning came after the North Korea threatened to fire ballistic missiles over Japan towards the US Pacific island of Guam. They agreed that North Korea must stop its provocative and escalatory behaviour, the White House said.

Harper sustained the injury in the first inning of Saturday's series opener against the Giants after slipping on first base and hyperextending his left knee.

The Nationals said Harper suffered a "significant bone bruise", but they are hopeful he will return to the field in 2017. Harper is certainly someone the Nationals need in order to compete in October. The Nats have had their share of injuries this season and they've fought to overcome them, but I'm not sure any amount of fight can will them past the Los Angeles Dodgers or Houston Astros without Bryce Harper. The team didn't have an immediate update on Harper's status. "I'm very optimistic that he'll be at least fine shortly", Baker said. The team is placing him on the 10-day disabled list and activating outfielder Michael Taylor. This is his first stint on the disabled list since 2014.
