Chandigarh Stalking: Women Hold Protest For Freedom To Move Around 'Anytime'

Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, and his friend, Ashish Kumar, both facing charges of stalking and attempted abduction of a 29 year-old woman were on Thursday remanded to two-day police custody by a local court.

The march began at 11 pm from Chandigarh Rose Garden, and ended at Leisure Valley in Sector 10, passing through the geri route, which is considered unsafe for women. "The victim says they have full faith in the police investigation", the outspoken health and sports minister said.

The protesters held candles, posters and placards to highlight the harassment, lewd gestures and comments and even instances of molestation that women and girls face at the hands of men on the city streets here.

A CCTV camera footage showing the two accused, Vikas Barala and his accomplice Ashish, buying liquor from an outlet in Sector 9 Chandigarh has surfaced in the high profile Varnika Kundu stalking and attempted abduction case.
