Derek Wolfe Carted Off Field With Ankle Injury

After a season marred by a painful elbow injury, Wolfe added bulk in the offseason, beefing up 20 pounds, he said.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Denver Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe took to social media Saturday to say he "dodged a bullet" with a right ankle injury after he had been carted off the field during practice on Saturday.

Wolfe, a leader and a versatile inside force, appeared to tangle legs with starting right tackle Menelik Watson on a running play moments after team drills started.

Wolfe had 51 tackles and 5.5 sacks a year ago and is a huge part of the Broncos run defense and pass rush.

Wolfe was helped onto a cart, driven off the practice field, and helped into the trainer's room while putting no weight on his right leg.

On Thursday, the Broncos lost defensive lineman Billy Winn for the season after he tore his ACL during Thursday's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears.

He is in the second year of a four-year contract that will pay him $6.05 million this year. "We're not sure how bad", coach Vance Joseph said.

Until Wolfe is completely healthy, the Broncos will be down to Jared Crick, Zach Kerr, Adam Gotsis, Domata Peko, Tyrique Jarrett, Shakir Soto and Shelby Harris on the defensive line.
