Dortmund extend Dembele suspension 'until further notice'

"Borussia Dortmund have made a decision to suspend Ousmane Dembele from training with the team until further notice", read a statement on the club's official website.

The 20-year-old found himself fined and suspended by the Bundesliga side earlier this week when he failed to show up for training.

Dembele will be expected to train on his own while the rest of the squad prepare for their first Bundesliga game of the season against Wolfsburg next Saturday.

Philippe Coutinho is one player who's name continues to crop up in reports, with Barcelona seeing an initial bid in the region of £75 million rejected for Liverpool's Brazilian playmaker, who, according to some reports, has handed in a transfer request at Anfield. "Dembele, of course, has the opportunity to complete an individual training session outside the group".

Speculation that a move to Barcelona was imminent soon mounted before BVB issued a statement saying a bid had been lodged by the Catalan giants but it did not meet their valuation for a player they signed from Rennes for €15m previous year.

Dembele has been sounded out by LaLiga giants Barca as a replacement for Neymar, following his astounding €222million world-record switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

He scored 10 times in 49 appearances in all competitions in the last campaign while he broke his duck for his country with the victor in the 3-2 friendly triumph over England in June in Paris.
