Facebook launches YouTube competitor called Watch

The new navigation tools make the video side of Facebook more like YouTube, and will likely see users more proactively encouraged to browse videos directly, rather than just watching content that automatically pops up within their personal Facebook feed.

"Watch is comprised of shows, a new type of video on Facebook", said Nick Grudin, Facebook's vice president of media partnerships, in a blog post. Named Watch, this is set to serve as a new platform for introducing shows to the social media giant Facebook.

"Shows are made up of episodes -- live or recorded -- that follow a consistent theme or storyline".

The world's largest social network added a video tab past year, and it has been dropping hints for months that it wanted to become a source of original and well-produced videos, rather than just shows made by users.

One caveat that Watch now carries is its current availability; according to the blog post that Facebook posted on their blog, the Watch will only be available for United States citizens as of writing but rest assured that the expansion is underway. This is a big leap for the company; their dedication to bringing good videos and content have let them open Video Tab on Facebook previous year, and now this.

Trump, Engineering Advisers, and the North Korea Crisis
Mattis said the USA had at its disposal 'the most precise, rehearsed and robust defensive and offensive capabilities on Earth'. When Barack Obama faced a humanitarian crisis after an quake rocked Haiti, he called on Presidents Bill Clinton and George W.

Of course, this isn't the first time Facebook has experimented with video.

It will be "a place where you can discover shows your friends are watching and follow your favorite shows and creators so you don't miss any episodes", Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said. According to recent news some contents and videos from Buzzfeed, Tastemade, Conde Nast Entertainment, and even from ATTN are expected to hit Watch. This also renders a more personalised experience to the Watch. And given that Facebook is closing in on almost two billion monthly users, it could provide publishers with a massive viewing audience.

While labels and publishers have said that they are optimistic about their licensing talks with Facebook, the social network's video service becomes ever more like YouTube as it evolves, meaning there's a high chance the web firm will want similar licensing deals to its Google-owned rival - ie a variation of the 55% advertising share arrangement it is offering all content creators, preferably with no commitments to pay when content plays without ads.

Earlier this week, Facebook announced its intention of releasing a new platform on its site.
