Giroud header seals Arsenal win in season-opening thriller

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Friday night's match-winner Olivier Giroud has made a decision to stay at Arsenal next season, ending interest from Everton, West Ham United and Marseille.

Arsenal had to come from behind twice to beat Leicester City 4-3 in a thriller as the Premier League season got off to a flying start on Friday with Arsene Wenger's substitutions turning the match around at The Emirates.

In the league's first Friday night start, Arsene Wenger's side was trailing 3-2 with seven minutes remaining but Ramsey grabbed the equaliser and Giroud headed in an 85th-minute victor.

However, Arsenal's makeshift back three of Sead Kolasinac, Nacho Monreal and Rob Holding failed to stop Shinji Okazaki equalising just two minutes later. After Aaron Ramsey leveled in the 83rd minute, Giroud sealed the three points within two minutes on an evening of thrilling attacks gifted by fragile defending.

"We were quite good last year on corners and with a bit of work we can get that out of our system", added Wenger, who has been given another two years in charge of Arsenal.

Arsenal set to offer bumper contract deal to Sanchez
Arsenal have offered Alexis Sanchez a new contract worth £300,000 a week, according to reports in the British media. "Alexis will not be available", the Frenchman said, as quoted by The Guardian . "He is focused.

Vardy then slid the visitors ahead from Marc Albrighton's cross, before Danny Welbeck drew Arsenal level at the end of a pulsating opening half.

Asked if Giroud could still leave before the transfer window closes on August 31 until January, Wenger replied: "No". I know how important he is not only as a player - he's a fantastic player - but also in the group he has a big weight. "We were quite good past year on corners and overall I believe that with a bit of work we can get that out of the system", the French coach added.

"You come away from home, score three goals and are almost there and then concede two.bitterly disappointed", he said. He adapts slowly to the way we want to play.
