Hundreds hold candlelight vigil at UVA in Charlottesville

Demonstrators in Charlottesville, Virginia, held a peaceful vigil Wednesday evening in the wake of the deadly violence the town faced last weekend.

Marchers assembled in the same place where hundreds of torch-carrying protesters marched on Friday, when several fights broke out.

"You have been replaced", Jordan Taylor captioned an Instagram photo of vigil-goers hoisting candles.

On Saturday, avowed Nazi-lover James Alex Fields Jr. plowed his vehicle into a group of anti-racism protesters during the white-supremacist "Unite the Right" rally, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer and injuring 19 others.

The university's Dean of Students Allen Goves told the Daily Progress that students and faculty "wanted to do something and take back the pathway that these people attempted to take away from them".
