Justin Upton destroys baseball with walk-off home run

Justin Upton's walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Tigers an improbable, 12-11 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.

Detroit blew a 5-0 first-inning lead and trailed 11-6 in the seventh before mounting its comeback. They are now 1-54 when trailing after eight innings.

The Twins had several chances to add insurance runs in their half of the ninth, but Miguel Sano struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

YANKEES 5, RED SOX 4: At New York, Aaron Hicks awoke a dormant offense with a two-run homer that sparked a five-run eighth inning, then threw out a runner at third in the ninth inning to help Aroldis Chapman get out of trouble and helped New York stop Boston's winning streak at eight. Upton hit a 2-2 pitch beyond the bullpen in left.

These two opened the series on Friday night with the Twins picking up a 9-4 win on the road.

Miguel Cabrera came out of the game after he singled in the fifth inning, complaining of lower back stiffness. Veteran Ervin Santana is scheduled to be on the hill to oppose the division rival Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

While the Tigers gave up on their season a long time ago, they still have talent and power. Berrios lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up six runs and six hits with two walks.

Stock markets lower, gold price continues to rise amid political tensions
Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE 6-to-1; on Nasdaq, a 3.60-to-1 ratio favored decliners. The Russian dollar-traded index RTS was down 1.49 percent, and ruble-traded MICEX fell 1.29 percent by midday.

Things unraveled spectacularly from there.

One out later, Eddie Rosario waited on a hanging breaking ball on a 3-2 count, and pulverized it, 455 feet into the seats in right-center.

Zimmermann wouldn't survive the fourth. He gave up six runs on six hits and two walks. His last outing saw him give up 5 runs to the Rangers in five innings. Even though we gave away a big lead, we still grinded at-bats and just kept chipping away. Things would tilt back in the Tigers favor from there on.

Dillon Gee allowed a sacrifice fly to Upton after Mahtook's one-out triple in the seventh. Rosario's second home run in two games went over the wall in right-center field. He has a.258 batting average with 11 home runs and 37 RBI for the season.

Mahtook continued to impress.

METS 7, PHILLIES 6: At Philadelphia, Amed Rosario's first career homer broke a tie leading off the ninth inning, Yoenis Cespedes and Michael Conforto also went deep and NY beat Philadelphia.

Since July 16, McCann is hitting.361 with six doubles, two homers and 12 RBIs. His RBI in the eighth gave him a career-high five RBIs.
