Paris Olympic Committee Will Consider Esports for the 2024 Games

Alongside ancient athletics like martial arts, the Paris Olympic bid committee will consider adding eSports to the 2024 program.

It's still a bit of a long shot at this point as the general response is more of a "we're not going to say "no" yet", but there is hope to see eSports as part of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Paris will be confirmed as the host of the 2024 Olympics at the next meeting of the International Olympic Committee, which is the result of a deal with Los Angeles, which agreed to take the 2028 games instead. The committee believes this may be remedied via the popularity of competitive video game tournaments.

Co-president of the Paris Olympic bid committee, Tony Estanguet, said that he is open to the idea. "The youth, they are interested in eSport and this kind of thing".

"Look, there's 11 years before the Games, so it wouldn't hurt if they took a year or even six months instead of rushing", said Jed Parriott, an organizer of the NOlympics LA group.

Estanguet directs attention to the fact that we have nearly seven years before the event, and that means seven years for the public, and more importantly the International Olympic Committee, to develop their views of competitive gaming.

There's so many strikers down the years who have been that backup striker who have played a major part in the season. The Gunners came from behind twice to win 4-3 and start the season with a win in front of their home supporters.

The fan base behind esports has continued to surge in recent years, already being confirmed for the 2022 Asian Games - a multi-sport competition considered second only to the Olympics in terms of size.

The concept of a digital Olympics is not exactly new: Though not officially affiliated with Rio, last year's Games included a two-day pop-up event for eSports.

It's not about Olympics, " said Estanguet. "I think it's interesting ... to better understand what the process is why it is such a success".

The most successful eSports titles are multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games or first person shooters (FPS).

The Madison Square Garden Company also recently acquired a controlling stake in Counter Logic Gaming, an eSports team that competes in League of Legends, Halo, Call of Duty, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
