Prasoon Joshi is new CBFC chief

Nihalani's term was supposed to end January 2018, but the amount of controversy he raked up with his archaic take on creativity and clear political leanings seemed to have reached a head with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. "I have believed that right and responsibilities are better served with constructive contribution", Joshi told PTI after his appointment. The new members are Vidya Balan, Vivek Agnihotri, Gautami Tadimalla, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal, Neil Herbert Nongkynrih, Waman Kendre, T S Nagabharana, Ramesh Patange, Vani Tripati Tikoo, Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Mihir Bhuta.

On the other hand, writer-poet and advertising entrepreneur Prasoon Joshi is a well known name in the industry.

Talking to indianexpress.com, CBFC member and filmmaker Ashoke Pandit said, "Yes, it is correct. We are not outsiders and will look at it (films) from fresh angle". Both are openminded and we want to progressively facilitate certification of films for producers in sync with the Cinematograph Act.

Nearly the entire film industry and majority of moviegoers are jumping with joy as Pahlaj Nihalani has been sacked as the chief of Central Bureau Of Film Certification (CBFC).

"The Central Government is pleased to reconstitute the existing Central Board of Film Certification with immediate effect for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier", said a PIB statement. The Censor board said that the movie can offend Muslims in country. He's a very fair, unbiased man, with a good sense of the audience.

Nihalani told IANS that he hoped he is "remembered as the CBFC chairperson who took a firm stand against vulgarity and pseudo-liberalism, no matter how unpopular it made me". Recently, Mr Nihalani had refused to certify the acclaimed film Lipstick Under My Burqa. I am sure Prasoon will have a different outlook.
