Rep. Keith Ellison says Kim Jong Un 'acting more responsible' than Trump

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) backed away from an earlier claim that President Trump was acting more irresponsibly than North Korea leader Kim Jong Un during escalating rhetoric between Washington and Pyongyang.

Trump doubled down Thursday, saying his previous bold statements might not have been "strong enough" for Kim Jong Un, whose regime announced a plan to fire four missiles near the US island territory of Guam in response to the White House's bold rhetoric.

"That was one of those I wish I'd not said", Ellison told the Post. "You have this guy making bellicose threats against somebody else who has very little to lose over there".

"We are working with the United States and our partners in the region to bring this crisis to a diplomatic end", Johnson wrote on Twitter, adding that the worldwide community stands "shoulder to shoulder in ensuring North Korea stops its aggressive acts".

"I think that the president unfortunately has elevated Kim Jong-Un now", McCaskill said at a town hall meeting Friday, the Daily Journal Online reported.

Johnson's intervention came as Chinese President Xi Jinping appealed to both sides for calm amid fears the worsening war of words between North Korea and the USA could lead to a military conflict with catastrophic consequences for the region, the Press Association reported.

"It's tailor-made for somebody to misuse", he added.

Kim Jong Un thinks "the nuclear weapons will prevent USA from getting involved", Sun said. "What we need is someone bringing calm to the situation, not spiking it".

The crisis blew up following the disclosure that U.S. intelligence analysts had concluded North Korean scientists had developed a nuclear warhead small enough to fit on a ballistic missile.

After Trump vowed on Tuesday to treat North Korean threats of hostility with "fire and fury like the world has never seen", the Kim regime announced that it is planning to launch four intermediate-range ballistic missiles into the Pacific Ocean near Guam, a US territory.
