Walnut Whip drops its nuts

Nestlé say they are keeping the Walnut Whip and producing the Whips as a brand new product.

Nestlé is expanding the range of its iconic whirl-shaped cone, Walnut Whip and launching new variants of Nestlé Whip: Delicate Vanilla, Delicious Caramel and Delightful Mint to offer more choice with and without the walnut.

"What? Sacrilege. Can we blame Brexit?" one reader responded in shock.

Another said: "So what do I now save till the end?"

This isn't the first time that the Whip has appeared in different flavours without the walnut.

True believers have already pointed out that they had long since lost the hidden second walnut in the base, shrunk considerably in size and developed smoother sides.

According to The Irish Times, Alison Clinton, the brand manager of chocolate classics at Nestlé United Kingdom and Ireland, said: "These new products will offer consumers more choice, enabling them to share their favourite products with their family and friends".

However, the Guardian reported that the price of walnuts has jumped by 20% this year, suggesting this could be the real reason behind the nut free nature of the products. Due to a flawless storm combination of higher walnut prices, exchange rate fluctuations, poor harvests and increasing levels of nut allergies in the developed world, there's now a version of it WITHOUT THE WALNUT.
