11 injured after man smashes vehicle into crowd at Boise auto show

"Six victims were taken to the hospital by ambulance, five were taken to the hospital in private vehicles", Boise police said in a statement.

Police say those injured do not include the driver. Boise Police Lt. Charles Lebar said "some of the injuries are serious, but none of them are critical".

The incident took place after a Cars and Coffee event around 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

Authorities said an investigation is underway and the evidence will be sent to the prosecutor for "possible charges".

The Porche driver, who was unhurt, is cooperating with investigators.

In Facebook messages to KING 5's sister station KTVB, Elizabeth Langley wrote "a guy in a gray Porsche Spider was leaving Cars and Coffee, and went to burn out of the auto show in front of a crowd along Overland watching the cars all leave".

The case brought global attention and led to allegations of a cover-up to protect the school's storied football team. Richmond served 10 months in juvenile detention after his conviction.

Overland Road is closed as officers investigate.

"The information I have is that the driver was showing off for the crowd", said LeBar.

Steve Vatcher described seeing "one body after another going flying up in the air, and shoes flying everywhere, and cellphones".

On social media, there are unconfirmed reports from witnesses suggesting that children were among those hit.

Also, the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary information shows that the driver of a Porsche Spyder was accelerating rapidly as he left the vehicle show from Entertainment onto eastbound Overland Road, lost control, and went onto the curb and into the crowd on a grassy area. "We'll wait to gather more information".

This was the last Cars and Coffee show of the season, according to the event's Facebook page. Check back for updates as they are confirmed.
