Andy Murray Withdraws From Asian Swing, Likely Done For Season

Andy Murray Withdraws From Asian Swing, Likely Done For Season

He has withdrawn from October's ATP Tour events in Beijing and Shanghai and will likely miss the events in Vienna and Paris later that month.

Murray's hip has been an issue since his semifinal loss to Stan Wawrinka at the French Open, he said 10 days when he withdrew from the US Open. Now Murray says his ongoing hip issues will likely end his season.

Murray struggled with the problem throughout this year's tournament at SW19 and, despite attempting to power through the pain, it led to him being knocked out at the quarter-final stage by American Sam Querrey in five sets.

But the former world No 1 insists he is confident that a Roger Federer-style extended break will allow him to get back to the top of the game - without the need for surgery.

On Wednesday, he said he had consulted with several leading hip specialists and his own team before reaching the decision not to defend his China Open and Shanghai Masters titles.

All of Africa's World Cup places up for grabs
While some analysts say this would be an uphill task when the two teams clash in Alexandria, there are possibilities that Uganda may win.

However, this season as produced just one title - at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships - while elbow and hip injuries have hampered Murray's chances of sustained form and momentum.

Murray also said that he will be in Brisbane at the start of next year, ahead of the Australian Open and could also feature in a charity event in Glasgow.

"I have a fantastic team working alongside me to help me through this process and appreciate the support from them and all of my fans over this hard period", Murray wrote.

Murray follows arch-rival Novak Djokovic in effectively shutting down for the rest of the season post-Wimbledon and it remains to be seen whether the duo will be able to successfully mount a comeback like Federer did this year.

Murray said he would still be playing in an exhibition match against Roger Federer in Glasgow on November 7. Both he and Djokovic will be seeded outside the Top 10 at the Australian Open.
