Army foils infiltration bid in North Kashmir, 2 militants gunned down

Two suspected militants were killed on Saturday after the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt in Jammu and Kashmir's Machil sector in Kupwara district. The interception led to an encounter that resulted into death of two unidentified terrorists, believed to be Pakistani nationals.

"The weapons and war-like stores were recovered from their possession", he said. No casualties or loss reported.

Troops monitoring the area noticed suspicious movement along the LoC and immediately challenged the intruders.

United Nations refugee agency 'shocked' by killings in eastern DR Congo
Eyewitness Alfred Rukungo said the soldiers continued shooting into the crowd even after some refugees were wounded. In the wake of the killings, Burundi's Foreign Minister Alain Aimé Nyamitwe took to Twitter demanding answers.

On Thursday, the forces killed two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in Kashmir, including Abu Ismail, the alleged mastermind of a deadly attack on Amarnath yatris earlier this year. Alert troops of the Army foiled the infiltration bid. This bid was foiled after more than a month's time when last infiltration was repulsed with fatal casualties on militant side.

The Machil and Naugam sectors in Kupwara district, Uri sector in Baramulla district and Gurez sector in Bandipora district of north Kashmir happen to be traditional routes of infiltration for militants.
