Assassin's Creed Discovery Tour Trades Combat for Exploration

Now slated for release early in 2018, Discovery Tour takes the assets and NPCs from the main game and curates them to form a series of interactive tours.

Discovery Tour is also consistent with one of the themes in Assassin's Creed: Origins, which places a greater emphasis on exploration and discovery than past installments have.

After taking a year off to find itself, the Assassin's Creed franchise returns this October with a brand new title called Origins.

"From the beginning, the Assassin's Creed franchise has always explored pivotal moments in history, from the Third Crusade to the Italian Renaissance, and the year Ancient Egypt", said Assassin's Creed Origins creative director Jean Guesdon. "The idea is, we put so much work and effort into recreating, as accurately as possible, these time periods that we are visiting, that we felt that a lot more than gamers would actually be interested [in] being immersed and know more about that time period". In what we saw, the player was able to approach a table in the game where an NPC was performing a mummification. Some people - History teachers especially - have commented that they use the games as an engaging entry point for the subject, because they combine both learning and play. Discovery Tour by Assassin's Creed: Ancient Egypt will be a dedicated tour, an educational mode. There will be no narrative. "It will be about enjoying ancient Egypt". Available as a free patch to Assassin's Creed: Origins in 2018, Discovery Tour will let players learn a little bit more about Egyptian culture with guided tours that have been curated by historians. From Alexandria to Memphis, the Nile Delta to the Great Sand Sea, the Giza plateau to the Faiyum Oasis, players can immerse themselves in the rich history of the region. Along the way, you'll find detailed explanations of Egyptian life to explore.
