England ODI skipper Eoin Morgan eager for West Indies T20 clash

England ODI skipper Eoin Morgan eager for West Indies T20 clash

Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid shared six wickets between them as England fought back to restrict West Indies to 176 for nine in the lone Twenty20 worldwide at Chester-le-Street on Saturday.

"This was probably the more challenging of our recent wins", said West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite speaking to Sky Sports "Conditions were soft and slippery, the umpires were close to calling it off actually".

"I am now heading off to Manchester to support the Red Devils (Manchester United) against Everton tomorrow (Sunday)", he explained.

England's response got off to the worst possible start with Jason Roy caught for a first-ball duck, and Hales was dropped on zero before he was eventually bowled by Brathwaite having smashed eight fours and one six.

Brathwaite ignited the collapse when he had Hales clean bowled off a straight delivery, then Joe Root (17) caught in the next over off Ashley Nurse.

To some in Durham it was yet another slap in the face from the England and Wales Cricket Board, who took the unprecedented step of relegating the side from the First Division of the County Championship in October and then hit them with a massive 48-point penalty for this season in return for a £3.8 million (4.3 million euros) bail-out that stopped the club going out of business in May past year.

They required 26 from the final over but Liam Plunkett was bowled by Carlos Brathwaite with three balls remaining.

But July saw him return to West Indies duty in a Twenty20 worldwide against India in Kingston.

Some family members had removed her from her home in Duanvale, Trelawny with other relatives not knowing where she was. Nabi Tajima of Japan is now the world's oldest verified living person at the grand old age of 117 years and 34 days.

But fast bowler Plunkett (three for 27) and leg-spinner Adil Rashid, whose figures of three for 25 were his best at this level, kept West Indies to under 200.

Gayle has not represented the Windies in the longest format of the game since 2014, as the West Indies Cricket Board quarrelled with him and other players that have focused on franchise Twenty20 cricket.

Gayle was his typical big-hitting self - hitting four sixes in his 21-ball 40 before he was run-out in lackadaisical fashion.

But the upcoming white-ball clashes are set to see West Indies, who beat England in the 2016 World Twenty20 final in Kolkata, India, bolstered by the likes of powerful opening batsman Chris Gayle.

That match saw fellow left-hander Lewis manage the impressive feat of out-hitting Gayle on his way to a stunning and unbeaten 125.

The Trinidadian, however, was out soon afterwards when he drove Plunkett to Root at mid-off.

The one-day global series starts on Tuesday.
