Jacob Rees-Mogg 'completely opposed' to abortion

Jacob Rees-Mogg 'completely opposed' to abortion

Watch a clip of Rees-Mogg speaking below.

The MP is "completely" opposed to abortion because 'life begins at the point of conception'.

"It's that marriage is a sacrament, and a sacrament is under the authority of the church, not of the state.' This is a theological argument against same sex marriage and Rees-Mogg added 'this is exactly the argument that Thomas More made in opposition to the marriage of Henry VII and Anne Boleyn".

"With abortion, it is something that is done to the unborn child".

"I think if I threw my hat in the ring, my hat would be thrown back at me pretty quickly", he said. The MP then said his opinion on abortion is "morally indefensible".

He added: 'I fully support Mrs May; I want her to remain leader of the Tory party'.

Rees-Mogg said that his religious views and the teachings of the Catholic Church did not have to be in tune with United Kingdom law and that the law on abortion would not change.

'Marriage is a sacrament and the view of what marriage is, is taken by the Church, not Parliament. "The marriage issue is the important thing, this is not how people arrange their lives".

Mourinho: My Man United future is not on the agenda
United paid Everton £75m for Lukaku in early July, weeks before PSG smashed the world transfer record with £198m for Neymar . Now the players of £20m became £40m, the players of £40m became £60m and everything changed.

Tim Farron quit as leader of the Liberal Democrats after he repeatedly refused to say whether he believed gay sex was a sin.

In response, Rees-Mogg said this proves the Conservatives are more "tolerant of religious faith" than the Lib Dems.

"The teaching of the Catholic church is completely clear". That seems to be fundamentally wrong'.

"People are entitled to hold these views, but also the democratic majority is entitled to have the laws of the land as they are - which do not go with the Catholic church, and will not go with the Catholic church". There is not a vacancy.

The colourful backbencher and staunch Brexit supporter, known as "the MP for the 18th century" for his unashamedly old-fashioned ways, has enjoyed growing popularity in recent months. In the history of the prime ministership [it] has never gone to a backbench MP.

"So the answer to your question is that it is simply not something that is going to happen".

It could be summer silliness, or it could be real desire for change, but Jacob Rees-Mogg has grown in prominence in recent months, and is now the second favourite to succeed Theresa May as Conservative leader, according to Oddschecker.
