Oppose 'third-party' involvement in Sino-India border disputes: China

"We are now trying to seek a solution through negotiations that is acceptable to both sides".

The reaction comes amid Japan's push for stepping up investments in India's north east.

Referring to the India-Japan Act East Forum, MFA spokesperson Hua Chunying said, "China and India are working on seeking a fair and reasonable settlement which can be accepted by both sides through negotiations".

"In such circumstances, we hope India and various parties should respect such aspects and any third party should not be involved in our efforts to solve disputes", she added.

CBI Summons Karti Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis Case
On Wednesday, the CBI had summoned Karti in connection with a money laundering probe in the Aircel-Maxis deal. Karti Chidambaram refused to appear before the CBI in the Aircel-Maxis case, his lawyer said.

"We hope that all parties can make concerted efforts to uphold the freedom of navigation and overflight enjoyed by all countries in relevant waters under the worldwide law and stay committed to settling the issues and disputes between them through dialogue and consultation", she added.

Asked about possible allusions to China in the joint statement, Hua said, "I have also read the Japan-India joint statement..." Both the title of the joint statement, "Toward a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific", and substantive paragraphs on cooperation in the region, indicate a much closer alignment between India and Japan in countering China's influence in the South China Sea, its forays into the Indian Ocean, and investments in South Asia and Africa.

It is clear that the Modi government has set India-Japan ties on an accelerated geopolitical course that will be a major factor in its dealings with the rest of the world, especially China, at a time when the U.S.is perceived to be retreating from the region.

"We know that to resolve the disputes, the directly concerned parties have to uphold the rights to freedom of navigation, over flights entitled to countries under worldwide law". In indirect reference to Japan, she said, "We also hope various parties can uphold the rights to freedom of navigation of over flights by countries in various waters". India has also extended to Japan an offer denied to any other country, which is to assist in infrastructure development in the Northeast. "We hope the normal development of the relationship can be conducive to regional, peace and development and play a constructive role in this process", she said.
