Quinn Nordin kicks No. 7 MI past Air Force

But the Wolverines outscored the Falcons 20-7 in the second half for a 29-13 victory, improving their record to 3-0.

Rockford's Quinn Nordin kicked five field goals to lead the seventh-ranked Michigan Wolverines past Air Force 29-13 in a battle of unbeatens at Michigan Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Early offensive struggles again plagued Michigan against Air Force on Saturday at Michigan Stadium. The offense was in the red zone four times, failing to tally a touchdown.

They had two red zone opportunities in the first half, including their first drive of the game.

The Wolverines have beaten Air Force twice in program history, including a 31-25 victory in the most recent matchup in 2012, and can extend their home winning streak to nine games with another triumph.

Nordin's 35-yard field goal gave MI an early advantage.

MI is now 3-0 on the season entering next Saturday's trip to meet Purdue in the Big Ten Conference opener at 4 p.m.at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Falcons used 16 different ball carriers en route to racking up 457 yards on the ground in their Week 1 win over Virginia Military Institute. The Wolverines gave up just one completion - a 64-yarder to receiver Ronald Cleveland that went for the Falcons' only touchdown of the game. Jim Harbaugh gave him another chance this week, and Peoples-Jones took advantage of it.

MI head coach Jim Harbaugh was already hearing from fans about replacing quarterback Wilton Speight - this likely won't help matters. Robert Bullard's recovery of a Chris Evans fumble at the Wolverines 44 set up the Falcons' first score, a 37-yard field goal by Strebel. He completed 14 of his 23 attempts for 169 yards through the air, at times overlooking open targets or missing them when he did spot them. The final score belies the fact that the Falcons stayed within striking distance late into the fourth quarter and left the crowd in Ann Arbor concerned for an offense that has lacked creativity, explosive plays and the ability to finish drives.

Speight's exasperation showed through after a wave of Air Force tacklers swallowed up a hand-off to Ty Isaac in the MI backfield on a third-down play eight yards from the end zone. Air Force routed VMI 62-0 in its season opener and hopes to ride the momentum to its first win against a Big Ten opponent since beating Northwestern in 2003.
