The mopping up starts in the wake of 'Doksuri' in Vietnam

Typhoon Doksuri lashed central Vietnam on Friday, tearing roofs from houses, knocking out power and causing localized flooding, in the country's most powerful storm in years.

The deadly storm, which swept through the Philippines on Tuesday as Tropical Depression Maring, has strengthened to a severe tropical storm with a speed of up to 115 kilometers per hour. More than 1,000 hectares of rubber trees were also damaged, while many streets were blocked by flood.

Authorities have warned of flash floods and landslides in the country's northern and central regions after the typhoon had passed.

Panicked residents fortified their homes and hauled boats in from the water on Thursday.

Authorities have evacuated nearly 80,000 people and called on almost 71,000 fishing boats with nearly 300,000 fisherman on board to dock at ports, according to Vietnam's National Steering Centre for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control. A three year old has also been reported injured when the roof was blown off her house whilst she was inside.

Further evacuations are expected in neighboring Quang Binh, Nghe An and Quang Tri provinces.

The storm was crossing Zhejiang, Fujian, and Hainan before moving towards Japan and Vietnam.

Vietnam has issued a warning of category four on a scale of five, and government has deployed 250,000 soldiers on standby along coast.

Typhoon Doksuri (L) is seen raging over Vietnam's north central coast.

By Saturday early morning, broken electricity poles and transmission lines in nine central provinces had been restored, the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam said, adding that many people experienced blackouts on Friday because thousands of low-voltage poles fell or broke.

Hurricane Hato in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau provinces has left eight people dead and caused material losses to billions of RMB.
