Adrian Peterson trade moves Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram up the charts

Following the act of Emmitt Smith and Edgerrin James, Peterson, 32, has been traded to the Arizona Cardinals, ending the five week experiment with the New Orleans Saints.

Adrian Peterson stood on the sideline most of his time in New Orleans, rushing just 27 times for 81 yards through four games. "Just the opportunities I've had to talk to him were brief".

Peterson had not been frequently used with New Orleans, hoping that the Cardinals and their depleted running back situation provide a haven of touches going forward. "He'll get to go out there and prove to everybody what he wants to prove to them, that he still can do this and that he still has a lot of juice in the tank".

"I sit back and marvel and just smile (when) I hear young guys like that say how I influenced them and their play and their work ethic", Peterson said. "It's just a little crowded right now with the third back'". But Palmer is second in the National Football League in passing yards with 1,573 yards. In all, Peterson had been on the field for an average of 11 offensive snaps per game.

Adrian Peterson isn't the first great player to disappear into obscurity in the desert.

"These are all hypotheticals", Payton said. "Anything I needed to know, he was an open book and I was thankful for that".

"I've been knowing Larry for a long time", Peterson said, "and I've never heard the excitement in his voice that I heard when he called". But Payton offered a vote of confidence to undrafted rookie Trey Edmunds, who made the team as a special teams regular and Daniel Lasco, a 2016 seventh-round draft pick now on practice squad.

Said Ingram: "I'm happy for him".

"When you think about the rhythm of a game and the amount of plays that you're trying to run, and your balance between run and pass - and even in our passing game, we look at that as an extension of the run game at times, the backs play a big role in that - I'd say that those guys have shown what they can do", said Saints quarterback Drew Brees, referring to Ingram and Kamara. His spectacular effort earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for that year.

Notes: Payton said WR Willie Snead, who missed New Orleans previous game with a hamstring injury, is ready to return, but practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday. Edmunds (concussion), TE Josh Hill (concussion) and CB Sterling Moore (chest) all fully participated in practice.
