Civilian killed, girl injured in Pak firing

An Army porter was killed and two women were injured in Pakistani firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday. Pakistan also violated ceasefire in Manjakot sector of Rajouri.

The Indian troops, they added, retaliated "strongly and effectively" by using similar calibre weapons.

A 22-year-old porter Syed Abbas Hussein Shah was critically injured in the Pakistani firing. The incident sparked a "major exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops", in which an 18-year-old girl, Nasreen Bano, a resident of Marian village, was also injured. Sources said intermittent firing was continuing in the area.

On October 12, an army jawan and a porter were killed and six others injured when Pakistani troops shelled forward areas along the LoC in the Poonch district.

It held "the Syrian regime accountable for any aggression from within its territory". There were no reports of injuries or property damage.

There has been a sharp rise in ceasefire violations by the Pakistan army this year with 600 violations reported till the beginning of this month.

In 2016, 221 incidents of ceasefire violations were also reported from the global border.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan violated ceasefire in Balakote sector of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. Till June 30, there were 23 ceasefire violations on the International Border.
