Liverpool chiefs make Coutinho promise over €150m Barcelona transfer

According to Mundo Deportivo, despite fending off interest from Barcelona in the summer, Liverpool have struck an agreement with Coutinho that will allow him to leave Anfield for the Spanish club if a "reasonable" offer is put forward.

The Brazilian playmaker has been a long-term target of the Blaugrana who made several attempts to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Coutinho handed in a transfer request over the summer that was rejected, and Barca engaged in a public approach for the player, bidding three times and seeing each one of their offers turned down by the Merseysiders.

The Catalans were eventually forced to abandon the pursuit on deadline day after Liverpool asked them to pay €200m (£179.3m, $236.8m) to complete the deal.

With Liverpool this week learning that star man Sadio Mane is to be out for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury, their reluctance to part with Coutinho is likely to be stronger than ever.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar has reportedly told his club to sign Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho. They also claim that Neymar has been speaking to his compatriot this week whilst on global duty in an attempt to get Coutinho to snub Barcelona, and join him in the French capital.

Liverpool remain adamant that the 25-year-old is not for sale, but both Barcelona and PSG are now expected to make a move for Coutinho in January.

After seven games this season, Liverpool already find themselves seven points off the lead, having accumulated a disappointing 12 points from their opening seven games.

Coutinho knows he can not play for Barca in the Champions League this season but that has not put him off joining.
