Mum jailed for refusing to get son vaccinated

Rebecca Bredow doesn't just talk the talk, she walks the walk.

Rebecca Bredow was last week sentenced for contempt of court almost a year after an Oakland County judge ordered her to have her nine-year-old son vaccinated.

Less than one week on, the Detroit mother says it's been the "worst five days" of her life, compounded by the news her son had been immunised. He told the Detroit Free Press that Bredow had been the primary custodian but the judge approved a recommendation for an evenly split custody on Wednesday.

The judge went on to list a series of things Bredow did without the dad's consent, saying "it's clear to me that you don't care about orders". A small group of supporters gathered outside the courthouse, waving signs reading "freedom is not force" and comparing the fight against vaccines to the pro-choice movement.

"It's been a rough few days to say the least", she added.

A USA mother has been left devastated to learn that her son has been vaccinated during her prison stint for refusing to inoculate her nine-year-old son. While she was in jail, Horne was granted temporary custody of their son, and the boy received four immunizations Monday.

A USA mum jailed for defying a court order to vaccinate her young son says she's outraged he's been given several immunisations while she's been locked away. She immediately appealed that decision and the court found her appeal without merit.

"She's devastated", Bredow's attorney, Steven Vitale, said. Bredow's case is about her refusal to follow court orders she previously agreed to, according to the judge.

"Never in a million years did I ever think that I would end up in jail standing up to try to protect my kids, and standing up for my beliefs", Bredow told ABC. "Even if you agree to them, which you did".
