Congress and a special investigator are looking into Russian activity during the US election, and how Russians used the internet to wage perhaps the most successful disinformation campaign in history.

The name of the campaign is "Don't Shoot Us", likely a reference to the "hands up, don't shoot" slogan that became a rallying cry of sorts after Michael Brown was shot and killed in Ferguson.

The account's Facebook page was removed from the site, according to CNN, after it was found to have been linked to the IRA. Similar activities were uncovered on YouTube, and now clearly Tumblr. It encouraged users to find Pokemon in places where police brutality had happened and then to rename their Pokemon after the victims. The contest featured a Pokemon named "Eric Garner" as an example. If Pokemon Go players completed those two tasks, they could send a screenshot to an email in return for supposed prizes, including Amazon gift cards. The Don't Shoot Us Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages have been suspended.

CNN reports that there is no evidence that anyone actually entered the contest, which kicked off in July 2016, nor any evidence that rewards were given out.

Not even Pokémon Go was safe from Russian interference during the election.
