Retail inflation eases to 3.28% in September

India's industrial output grew sharply 4.3 percent in August, highest in nine months, showing signs of recovery, aided by an expansion in the manufacturing sector. This was higher than the 4 per cent growth recorded in same month last fiscal. However, the with August's industrial production at 4.3%, it is inching towards 4.5% growth in July past year.

The government today revised July's factory output growth to 0.9 percent in July, as compared with an earlier estimate of 1.2 percent. According to the data furnished by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, September's consumer price index (CPI) inflation remained static at 3.28 per cent as compared to August.

India's retail inflation stayed unchanged in September, as a slower rise in food prices helped offset costiler fuel, government data showed Thursday.

The August intermediate goods output is at -0.2 per cent, against -1.8 per cent in July.

The year-on-year CPI dropped to 3.44 per cent in urban areas and 3.15 per cent in rural areas in September as compared to 3.64 per cent and 5.04 per cent respectively in the corresponding period last year. The current inflation rate remains below the Reserve Bank's 4 per cent target.
