The preflown rocket booster that lifted the satellite and the upper-stage rocket carrying it outside Earth's atmosphere blasted off at 3:53 p.m. PDT from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

This Falcon 9 booster was first used for a cargo mission to the International Space Station in February.

SES Satellites has been one of SpaceX's most-ardent backers, having been the first customer to hitch a ride on a previously launched rocket in March. About 8.5 minutes later, the first stage came back to Earth for a pinpoint landing on the robotic SpaceX ship named "Of Course I Still Love You", which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

EchoStar 105/SES-11 provides EchoStar with 24 Ku-band transponders of 36 MHz, marketed as EchoStar 105, while it provides SES with a C-band payload of 24 transponders, marketed under the name SES-11.

SpaceX will deliver a communications satellite created to broadcast television over the United States of America and parts of the Caribbean this evening. Newcomer satellite operator Bulgaria Sat was the second, with BulgariaSat-1 in June. This means that Falcon 9's first stage rocket will becoming down faster with less fuel to slow its descent than missions to lower orbits. It was the "third successful mission with a flight-proven orbital class rocket", said SpaceX on Twitter.

After just three days from its last launch, SpaceX conducted another successful launch on October 11. Titanium grid fins, as seen during the Iridium-2 mission earlier this year, are a feature of the Block 5 goal, but the main modification is expected to be the addition of a new sort of heat shield to cover the octaweb structure that holds the vehicle's 9 Merlin 1D rocket engines.
