Yahoo now says all 3B of its accounts were hacked

That makes the Yahoo hack far and away the largest in history.

The breach, which affected all 3 billion Yahoo users, had been disclosed in December 2016 as having affected only 1 billion users.

In December of previous year, Yahoo disclosed that cybercriminals in August 2013 had broken into its systems and compromised "more than 1 billion" accounts. Yahoo had previously placed the total at over one billion and has now updated it to a stunning three billion accounts.

"Following an investigation with the assistance of outside forensic experts, [we believe] that all Yahoo user accounts were affected by the August 2013 theft", Suzanne Philion, an Oath spokeswoman, said in a statement Tuesday. The information stolen didn't include passwords in clear text, payment data or bank accounts.

A guard who calmed the man and led him away was said to have dealt with the situation with "compassion, restraint and bravery". South Western Railway also reported delays due to overrunning engineering work between Castle Cary and Yeovil Junction.

The number of individuals affected by the 2013 attack is smaller than 3 billion, because some people have multiple accounts across Yahoo's sites, including email, fantasy sports, Tumblr and Flickr, the spokesman said.

"Verizon is committed to the highest standards of accountability and transparency, and we proactively work to ensure the safety and security of our users and networks in an evolving landscape of online threats", said Chandra McMahon, Chief Information Security Officer, Verizon in a blog post.

That means that absolutely everyone who had a Yahoo account when the theft occurred in August 2013 was affected.
