After three appeals, NCAA clears State guard Braxton Beverly

Eventually, he decided that without Matta, Columbus was not where he wanted to be and headed to N.C. State.

Braxton Beverly, the former Perry County Central star who twice had been denied eligibility by the NCAA under its transfer rules, will be able to play Tuesday night after winning his latest appeal. The NCAA announced the move in a statement shortly before the Wolfpack hosted Bryant. Wolfpack assistant A.W. Hamilton coached Beverly last season at Hargrave.

The NCAA said Beverly can "compete immediately", which means he'll suit up against Bryant at PNC Arena. On Tuesday, the NCAA informed NC State that it had not only met the threshold that the information was new, but that the denial decision had been reversed to allow Beverly to play immediately.

Beverly enrolled at Ohio State last May and took summer classes for one month before that school fired basketball coach Thad Matta. But that triggered the NCAA designation as an undergraduate transfer as opposed to an incoming freshman.

She was a guest co-host on the chat show for the week of October 30. This opportunity came and it's something new, something exciting.

In a statement, Beverly's attorney, Scott Tompsett, said Beverly is "absolutely thrilled" by the ruling and thanked the NCAA for reconsidering its initial stance.

"Braxton also appreciates the public support he's received from so many people across the country and the media outlets that have reported on his case".

"Through all of this, I am still happy with the decision to come to NC State". He took a summer class, causing the NCAA to deny him eligibility for one year initially. However, Beverly then hired a lawyer and submitted a final request for reconsideration to the NCAA, resulting in his immediate eligibility.

It worked this time.
