AWS sells China hardware to local cloud partner

In a statement to TechCrunch, the online retail giant said it is not parting ways with its business in China, and will continue to offer the industry-leading cloud services to its customers in China.

"Chinese law forbids non-Chinese companies from owning or operating certain technology for the provision of cloud services", the US firm said.

Amazon has made it clear that it is selling only "certain physical assets", and retains the ownership of intellectual property for AWS (Amazon Web Services) worldwide.

Sinnet Technology Co.in Beijing, which is the Chinese partner of Amazon, said in a Monday filing that it would purchase the US company's Amazon Web Services public cloud computing business in China at a price of as much as 2 billion yuan or $301.3 million.

Laws that took effect during June require companies to store their data locally.

"Sinnet is responsible for ensuring that its customers in China comply with local laws and their notice was meant to remind customers of their obligations", an Amazon spokeswoman said via email at the time.

Meanwhile it's always been thought that Meghan Markle will leave the show at the end of the season. Meghan Markle , left, who plays Rachel Zane, and Patrick J.

"‎We're excited about the significant business we have in China and its growth potential".

"This move is mostly around regulatory compliance", said Charlie Dai, Beijing-based analyst at Forrester Research. AWS runs a separate hardware venture in collaboration with the Ningxia provincial government in China's northwest, according to Reuters.

In August 2016, Amazon signed a deal to let Chinese tech firm Sinnet operate services provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in China. Sinnet urged its customers to avoid using virtual private networks (VPNs), which outsmart China's Great Firewall.

The move places a big shadow over foreign ventures of a similar nature in China.

Multinational companies doing business in China, including Apple, have transferred data in 2017 to Chinese companies that are overseen by local governments.

Sinnet said that the ongoing purchase would help the unit follow the local laws and regulations and make improvements in quality and security of the service.
