The world's richest man Bill Gates has started to lay plans about building up a "smart city" for people to integrate new technology in their lives.

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has chosen Arizona to build his future 'smart city' by purchasing a plot of 25,000 acres of land in the south western region of the United States. 3,800 of the city's acres will be used for office, retail and commercial space, 470 acres will be used for public schools, and the rest of the land will be used to build 80,000 residential homes.

An investment firm controlled by the Microsoft cofounder and philanthropist has bought almost 25,000 acres about 45 miles west of Phoenix to build a smart city, communities that are built from the ground up with the idea of integrating technology into their residents' lives. The proposed community, known as Belmont, would serve a "template" for development of sustainable cities capitalizing on cutting-edge infrastructure, the investment firm Belmont Partners said a statement. "Comparable in square miles and projected population to Tempe, Arizona, Belmont will transform a raw, blank slate into a purpose-built edge city built around a flexible infrastructure model", the company said.

The community in Belmont will be designed around high-speed networks, autonomous vehicles, high-speed digital networks, data centers, new manufacturing technologies and autonomous logistics hubs.
