Fernando Torres Reportedly Eyeing Premier League Return

That said, Torres' dismal spell at Chelsea could be a turn off.

Newcastle fans will be hopeful that Benitez can lure his compatriot to St James' Park after the striker spent three years working under the Magpies boss at Liverpool and nearly one season at Chelsea.

According to the Daily Mirror, Torres has asked to be sent out on loan in January, and has specifically asked his agent to inform Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez and Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino of his potential availability. The World Cup victor is now little more than a squad rotation player at his boyhood club of Atletico Madrid and reports suggest that he desires a return to England.

PCP is backed by £28billion in funds from the Middle East and China and is looking to move into the riches of the top flight in England. There's no reversing the ageing process, and Torres seems to have suffered from the inexorable march of time more than most.

After falling down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid, the 33-year-old is expected to join a new club on loan in January.

Aaron Jones injured against the Bears
Ty Montgomery rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on six carries after Jones left, but he too left the game and did not return. If he misses only three weeks, he could return on December 10 against the Cleveland Browns.

Even without major backing, Benitez has done well with the players available to him. While this is a decent start Benitez's side have really struggled for goals, scoring just ten times in 11 games.

Torres scored 65 goals in 113 appearances for the Reds.

Barring a mini-revival at Atletico a couple of years ago, Torres' goal haul has declined season on season for nearly half a decade.

While it was a odd season for the Blues and one in which they could only win the Europa League, Torres was revitalised once more under Benitez, putting together several scoring runs and chalking up 22 goals in all competitions.

Newcastle will return to premier league action when they take on Manchester United away from home after the worldwide break.
