Google Doodle Celebrating Hole Punch 131st anniversary

On the 128th birth anniversary on Tuesday of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, widely celebrated as Children's Day across the country, Google chose to sport a playful Doodle celebrating 131 years of the hole puncher.

A couple of Years ago, Sir, Friedrich Soennecken documented an everlasting and surprising patent for the opening puncher or what shall we say a Papierlocher fur Sammelmappen that's we it's named. A hole puncher is a common office tool that creates holes in sheets of paper so that the sheets can easily be collected in a binder or folder.

The doodle celebrates German engineering and ingenuity, as the basic design for the hole puncher has remained constant for 129 years.

Created by Gerben Steenks, the doodle pays tribute to entrepreneur and inventor Friedrich Soennecken, who filed a patent for the hole puncher on November 14, 1886. He also founded his own company F Soennecken Verlag in 1875.

Saeed Ajmal Retires From All Forms of Cricket
Having turned 40 last month and with no options left, Ajmal has finally made a decision to bring an end to his cricketing career. Returning from a suspension, Ajmal played two ODIs in Bangladesh in 2015 with a reworked action, but he failed to impress.

Aside from the hole puncher, his major invention was the "round writing" style of calligraphy and the famous fountain pen nib that made the technique both possible and accessible. The second "g" of Google has been replaced by a blue sheet of paper.

The hole puncher employs a lever and spring system to allow the user to line up and punch holes with cylindrical blades through stacked sheets of paper easily. Variations of the machine are commonly found in offices today, even in the digital age, and is not likely to change much as long as humans continue to use paper.

Another type of hole puncher is the single hole puncher, which is primarily used to punch tickets.

These days, standardised hole punchers incorporate a compartment to collect the confetti left behind by the process and can be adjusted to fit different paper sizes. The hole puncher doodle reaches countries across Europe, North America, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and India.
