Israel Deploys Iron Dome Batteries Amid Terror Threats

The freedom tunnel is not the only tunnel owned by the Islamic Jihad.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned of retaliation, saying any attack on Israel emanating from the Gaza Strip will be met with a harsh response.

Earlier on Monday, the IDF said that West Bank-based PIJ leader Tariq Qa'adan had been arrested, prompting outrage from the group, which said it was "part of the occupation's latest escalation against Islamic Jihad and our people", according to Palestine Today, a news site affiliated with the group.

Other Iron Dome batteries were also reportedly moved to central Israel from the south of the country, where they normally protect against sporadic short-range rocket attacks.

Netanyahu's remarks came on the heels of a Saturday night Arabic-language video issued by Major General Yoav Mordechai, head of a defence ministry unit responsible for activities in the Palestinian territories.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh also reacted to Mordechai, though with a less forceful statement as his movement focuses on following through with the Palestinian reconciliation accord.

The Israel Defense Forces blew up the tunnel, which originated in the Gazan city of Khan Younis and crossed into Israeli territory, near Kibbutz Kissufim, on October 30.

In a vow to respond with equal measure, Islamic Jihad urged "Israel's threats don't scare us".

More than a dozen militants were killed in the collapse and the IDF later revealed it is holding the bodies of five, likely to use as bargaining chips in negotiations over the release of Israeli captives and fallen IDF soldiers.

In his YouTube message, Mordechai referred to those reconciliation efforts, saying Islamic Jihad was "playing with fire" and potentially threatening the talks as well as the safety of Gaza Strip residents.

He said that there were those "who still amuse themselves these days by trying to renew attacks against Israel" and warned that such attacks would be dealt with harshly.

"I say this to every entity, rogue faction, organization - everyone".
