Jon Stewart says he's 'stunned' by the allegations against Louis CK

Louis C.K. released a statement on November 10 that vindicated five women who spoke to The Times about abuse dating back to the late 90s.

But in the wake of the revelations about Louis C.K., Stewart took the opportunity Tuesday to explain his reaction to the 2016 question.

During his short street interview, Stewart repeatedly focused on women being the sole victims of rampant sexual abuse in Hollywood.

Stewart also acknowledged that comedy "is not a great environment for women" in the first place. He said, "What do you think of the allegations against Louis C.K., and my first response was, 'What?' and then joke, joke".

I try to think of it in terms of, you know, I've had friends who've had compulsions and who have done things - gambling or drinking or drugs - and we've lost some of them.

A Thursday report in the New York Times detailed explicit allegations of sexual misconduct made against C.K.by five women.

"I think it's gotten better over the years", Stewart said, "but certainly when we started 30 years ago, it was really hard, and so to do it was an act of bravery in and of itself".

He added that he hoped China would continue to ratchet up the pressure on its restive neighbour. For his part, Moon said that bilateral ties are now standing at a new starting point.

In another appearance on "The Today Show", Stewart opened up a bit more about what it means to be friends with a person and trust their character while he conceals indefensible behavior. "So you feel anger at what you did to people". "You know who you're talking to, right?" he tells the audience member, who cited a Gawker article and a podcast by comedian Jen Kirkman.

"A year ago, I was doing a podcast with David Axelrod and a man in the audience asked me about it", Mr. Stewart said. "No, I didn't see the tweets". Honestly, I'm not that connected to that world.

On Tuesday morning, Stewart talked about that incident on Today, saying that he had been caught off guard by Ackerman's question.

As the interview came to a close, Lauer asked if Stewart had talked to C.K. since last week's New York Times story broke. "As he kept going, I was like, 'look, I know this is very serious, he's always been a gentleman to me" - which speaks again to the blindness that I think a man has.

"No, I haven't", he replied.

Stewart co-hosts the annual charity benefit "Night of Too Many Stars" on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. It features John Oliver, Olivia Munn, Robert DeNiro, Ben Stiller, Stephen Colbert and more.
