Removal of S Durga from IFFK: Sanal Kumar Sasidharan to move court

Removal of S Durga from IFFK: Sanal Kumar Sasidharan to move court

On the other hand, Nude director Ravi Jadhav has written a letter to the ministry to know the reason for dropping his film from the festival, "Give me some reason at least".

Ghosh has reportedly confirmed the news, but did not reveal anything more. In any case, film screenings at festivals like the IFFI are different from box-office releases.

If the I&B ministry is indeed responsible, it must explain why it deemed it necessary to change a list of films chosen by a jury of experts. Following the announcement, a few members of the jury have criticised the Ministry's decision stating that they were not informed about the change.

While the filmmakers lashed out at the ministry for interference and the jury members expressed disappointment, with Sujoy Ghosh resigning as jury chairman, the I and B ministry has now hit back.

However, according to the senior official, the original, uncensored version was submitted for IFFI, making the ministry deny it "exemption certificate" for the second time. Instead of Nude, the Hindi movie Pihu by Vinod Kapri was finalised as the opening film of the festival.

Army lifts ban on recruits with history of some mental health issues
Worse still, mental health problems could present themselves at inopportune times, such as during a combat deployment, she said. Army's decision to make it easier to issue recruit waivers for self-mutilation and other serious mental health issues.

Reacting to the decision taken by the Government of India to ban those movies, veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal backed Ghosh and said that the government should not support those people, who do not want the film to be shown. And the film Nude explores the life and conflicts of a nude model at an art school.

Overruling the recommendation of the 13-member jury, the Information and Broadcasting ministry pulled out Sasidharan's film "S Durga" and the Marathi movie "Nude" from the 48th edition of the film festival, to be held in Goa from November 20 to 28.

In a Facebook post, Sanal, who has won global acclaim as a filmmaker, said, "It is a shame that, no one from the Kerala film fraternity or any film activists or any Malayalam media makes any comment against the arbitrary removal of two films from the list of Indian Panorama by the I and B ministry". "I am really disappointed and shocked to hear that it has been dropped".

The national award-winning director also said that it is hard to accept that a selected film is removed from the festival without any explanation, "My film was chosen for this, you can't take away my right".

Both the directors suspect that their films have been dropped from the Panorama because of the I&B officialdom's squeamishness about the titles.
