Saeed Ajmal Retires From All Forms of Cricket

The cricketer said that the ongoing National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi will be his last event as a player.

Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal, who always remained under the lens for suspected bowling action, eventually announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, saying: "Ban over action left me frustrated and hurt".

During a successful but controversial career, Ajmal was once celebrated as the world's number one bowler in one-day internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 cricket, and was nearly as successful in Tests. "It was a highly satisfying career in which I achieved whatever goals I set for myself and helped the team win matches".

Ajmal was equally successful in Tests with three Test matches against England in 2012 remain a high point of his career.

The 40-year-old will retire as one of Pakistan's top wicket-takers in worldwide cricket. Though he made his global debut late, in the 2008 Asia Cup, it was under Misbah-ul-Haq's captaincy, from 2011 onwards, that he became a major all-format force for Pakistan.

Ajmal made his worldwide debut for Pakistan in 2008 and went on to pick 447 wickets in all formats of the game. He was first pulled up during the 2008 Asia Cup but was cleared soon after.

At the time he was the No. 1 ranked ODI bowler and was in the top 10 list in both Tests and T20Is.

Returning from a suspension, Ajmal played two ODIs in Bangladesh in 2015 with a reworked action, but he failed to impress. He finished with 184 wickets in 113 ODIs, and 85 in 64 Twenty20 internationals.

Having turned 40 last month and with no options left, Ajmal has finally made a decision to bring an end to his cricketing career.
