The Tehama County Sheriff's Office is now calling on the Department of Justice to investigate the shooting.

USA Today reported that the gunman was a felon - and hence not eligible to purchase or own firearms.

Authorities have recovered a semiautomatic rifle and two handguns after the shootings in the rural subdivision described on its website as a "quiet private country community" where "the people are friendly and the pace is relaxed".

A gunman's rampage has claimed the lives of four people, during a school shooting in California.

Flint says he had been shooting "hundreds of rounds" from large magazines. "We made it (known) that this guy is insane and he's been threatening us and everything like that". When asked how he was feeling, he replied: "I just feel like maybe there should've been more effort put into potentially stopping things like this". The assailant, yet to be identified by police, opened fire in several locations, including an Elementary School.
