Trudeau airs concern on Philippine killings

Trudeau is in the Philippines to participate in the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related summits, including the East Asia Summit.

Trudeau said Canada will continue to be a part of global efforts to fight worldwide terrorism and will work to ensure that "there are consequences for anyone engaged in terrorist hostage taking".

Both Duterte and Trudeau were present at the ASEAN-Canada's 40 Commemorative Summit at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) which was also held in Pasay City.

"I'm happy to commit to you all now that Canada is very much engaged in finding a solution on that", he said.

Greenpeace also expressed hope that Trudeau won't let the garbage become Canada's legacy in the Philippines.

Trudeau, who spoke ahead of the larger summit involving leaders from 18 countries, including China, Russia and the United States, to discuss security issues, said Canada's earnest defence of free trade puts it in a unique position to help the association foster growth in southeast Asia.

Jay Cutler had 213 yards passing with two touchdowns and one interception for the Dolphins (4-5), who have lost three straight. Kenyan Drake provided the big play for the Dolphins, breaking free for a 66-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

"Canada is deeply committed to multilateral institutions and fora, and the East Asia Summit is an important one in an extremely compelling and growing region of the world", he said. His government has also been building a case with hope it can eventually obtain a seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Justin Trudeau tackled Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte over allegations of extrajudicial killings in Manila's deadly drug war, he said on Tuesday.

On Monday, the White House said human rights was also discussed in Duterte's talks with U.S. President Donald Trump. Duterte's bloody crackdown has included extrajudicial killings by his government that have left thousands dead.

The opportunity arrives at a time when Trudeau is making efforts to raise Canada's global profile and demonstrate it can wrestle with complicated challenges, at home and overseas.

Trudeau was asked later in the day about why he's interested in expanding Canada's engagement in the Asia-Pacific region.

Trudeau said Canada's stance is to "emphasize rule of law and ensure protection for all citizens".
