Wild boar hits Indigo flight during take-off, Airline issues statement

In a statement, IndiGo said it has filed a "writ petition (along with an interim application for injunction/stay) in the Delhi High Court, challenging DIALs decision to shift a part of our operations from T1 to T2 of Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi". In what can be termed a miraculous escape, the disaster was averted after a wild boar hit the flight mid-takeoff. After the incident crew members called the ATC (Air Traffic Control) for clearing carcass and let the way for the flight to touch down. Hence, the pilots flew the plane over the sea for 45 minutes to burn fuel and then landed at the Vizag airport. Landing the plane with a full tank of fuel would also have been risky. Only after confirmation that it did not suffer any damage, it took off again three hours behind schedule. It reached Hyderabad at 2:15 am.

An IndiGo flight with 159 people on board hit a wild boar while taking off from Visakhapatnam airport, PTI reported on Tuesday. "According to standard operating procedures, the captain immediately reported the matter to the Air Traffic Control and made a decision to hold over Vizag", the airline said in a statement.

The airlines further said, post runway inspection by the airport authorities after 45 minutes, the pilot carried out a "precautionary" landing back at Vishakhapatnam Airport to get the "necessary inspections done". "We have asked authorities to take measures to clear wild animals from the airport area to prevent mishaps". "If a wild boar could sneak into the runway, even a terrorist also could gain entry under the cover of darkness", he said and sought immediate clearing of bushes.
