Woman techie dies after spurned lover sets her on fire in Chennai

Indhuja was declared "dead on arrival" and Renuka and Nivedha were later taken to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital. Mother Renuka and sister Nivedhika rushed to save her, but they themselves sustained serious injuries.

However, other reports claim that there had been an altercation between Indhuja and the stalker first, after which he poured the petrol on her.

The 25-year old accused Aakash, who ran away from the spot after committing the crime, was arrested later by the police.

Aakash, an engineering graduate, used to be friendly with Indhuja and has been stalking her for over a month, claiming that he was in love with her.

As per The News Minute, Aakash, who lives in the neighbourhood, landed up outside Indhuja's residence on Monday night.

The shocking incident took place at Indhuja's house in Adambakkam AGS Colony, Saraswathi Nagar at around 9pm. "He was pursing the girl even though she rejected him".

The accused, a college dropout, threatened her parents as well as they were looking for a groom for Sindhuja. Although, nothing is cleared yet why he burnt her alive along with sister and mother. The victim's mother and sister have also been injured in the incident, as they tried to save the victim and have been hospitalized with severe burns. When a reluctant Indhuja opened the door, the jilted lover is said to have thrown petrol on her, dousing her mother and sister in the process. Both are being treated at the hospital.

On hearing their screams, the neighbours rushed to the victim's house.

The accused, Aakash, absconded right after but was caught on Tuesday morning.
