This season marks the 12th consecutive year the Detroit Red Wings and The Salvation Army have teamed up through the "Red Wings for Red Kettles" initiative to help the nonprofit reach its $7.85 million Red Kettle Campaign goal.

This year's fundraising goal for the Salvation Army of Portage County is $175,000.

A quarter-ounce gold coin, worth about $300, was found November 29, in a Salvation Army kettle at Sandy's Donuts in downtown Fargo, the organization said earlier.

"Whoever did this knows the good that will come of it", said Salvation Army Capt. Marcos Marquez, officer of The Salvation Army's Moore Street Corps. All proceeds will be donated directly to The Salvation Army.

Jamie Brenchley, service manager for the Salvation Army homeless services on the Isle of Wight, said, "The winter shelter provides an emergency response to broken people on the Isle of Wight that are homeless".
