Apple Accidentally Announces Launch of Amazon Prime Video App for Apple TV

However last we heard, the app's launch was delayed.

India Today Tech can confirm this via the latest version of Amazon Prime Video app on iOS (version 5.0), which details that the streaming service can be viewed on Apple TV (3rd generation and later) by downloading the standalone tvOS app. While all has gone quiet about the former, it appears that we're finally nearing a launch for Amazon Prime Video for Apple TV...

From a competitive standpoint, Amazon will now be able to say it's in a more aggressive position with Netflix following its addition to Apple TV. Cook reiterated that same news at the debut of the Apple TV 4K on September 12th but again gave no firm release date. It's also important to note that the app comes with support for Apple TV's Universal Search feature, so the TV shows and movies that users searched for will show up on the Apple TV interface.

So far, the app has appeared in Apple TV search in the United States and Canada, but not the UK, according to my Engadget colleagues there. At the time, Apple teased that the tvOS app is slated for a summer 2017 release. Spanish blog Applesfera spotted the Prime Video app in the iOS App Store with promotional text written by App Store editors.

While Amazon fights with Google over YouTube, it's own streaming service just got a big win.

We love Amazon Prime.

Amazon stopped selling Apple TV in the fall of 2015 after Bezos said he didn't want his customers to buy a device that wasn't compatible with Amazon's video app.

With Apple now having 18 of the 19 most watched apps of its competing streaming box, Roku, the absence of the Amazon Prime Video app has always been one of Apple TV's more glaring shortcomings. The main reason why the outlet made a decision to stop selling the set-top-box was due to it not being capable of running Prime Video because if someone bought the box on Amazon, they'd think it could stream Prime video content and they'd be disappointed.
