Damishi Sango, Ex-Sports Minister Kidnapped

Sango was kidnapped at about 7:00p.m. on Wednesday with his son, a chieftain of the party, Chief Emmanuel Mangni, a driver, an orderly and one other person while travelling to Abuja ahead of the PDP convention.

Speaking to Daily Trust on the incident, the state party Publicity Secretary, John Akans confirmed the ransom demand but stated that state party officials were yet to take any decision as national officers of the party were handling the matter. He left Jos about 2pm and was heading for Abuja in preparation for the PDP national convention.

INDEPENDENT gathered that Governor Simon Lalong had been contacted by the national secretariat of PDP on the Sango issue and urged him to do whatever he could to get an illustrious citizen of his state out of the kidnappers' den.

"Yes, it is true, the abductors of Hon Damishi T. Sango are demanding a ransom of N100m", he said. Mapis, according to the told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), quoted Sango as telling family members that the five of them were safe.

Earlier on Thursday, Aliyu Mukhtar, spokesman of the Kaduna command, told TheCable that the police received a distress call around 6pm on Wednesday.

Mapis, however, said that no one had contacted the family so far.

The party spokesman disclosed that the jeep belonging to the former minister had been found by security agents with two telephones belonging to his son that was kidnapped along with him.

"The incident happened in Jere, Kaduna State, and is not under my jurisdiction". From what they demanded, we are waiting to see whether they will come down from tomorrow. "We are just so anxious and confused", he said.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to ascertain the fate of the victims and rescue them.
