Dexter Fletcher to direct 'Bohemian Rhapsody' after Bryan Singer's firing

Dexter Fletcher to direct 'Bohemian Rhapsody' after Bryan Singer's firing

Shooting is due to resume next week.

The 51-year-old actor and director has helmed films such as "Eddie the Eagle" and "Wild Bill" and is now set to restart production on the Rami Malek-led biopic after Singer, 52, was sacked by 20th Century Fox, Deadline report.

Singer was sacked from the high-profile project on Monday this week over reported absences and alleged conflicts with actor Rami Malek, who portrays Freddie Mercury in the film.

Singer was sacked this week after not reporting back to the set after Thanksgiving break; In a statement he said he was caring for an elderly parent and also minimized claims of feuding on set with star Rami Malek.

Neither Malek nor Singer have publicly commented on the film since Singer's departure and statement.

"I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S.to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents. Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services", he said. "This was not my decision and it was beyond my control".

News of Singer's firing from the mostly-finished film hit on Monday, when TheWrap reported on tensions between the director and studio over what numerous insiders called a "pattern" of unprofessional behavior - prolonged absence and lateness, as well as conflicts with Malek. "While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving". It is hoped that Fletcher will be able to get the project back on track for its slated December 25, 2018 release. The band are, from left to right; Brian May, John Deacon (standing), Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury (Frederick Bulsara, 1946 - 1991).
